Description:

The five year program has been carefully structured and designed to ensure the high standard of knowledge, skills and responsibility of dental surgeons. To treat patients successfully and safely students must have sufficient motor skills to work with hand and electric instruments. Students must be able to perform palpation, percussion, auscultation and other diagnostic procedures. Students must have reliable gross and fine motor skills and sense of touch and vision. Students are required to be capable of operating all dental equipment, including both high- and low-speed handpieces. Students must be able to take an accurate dental and medical history from the patient. Students must be able to analyze and interpret X-ray and radiographic images necessary for proper diagnosis. Students must be able to perform a visual and tactile dental examination including the observation of shape, color and abnormalities, both extra- and intraorally. Students must be able to discuss problems and treatment with the patients, gather and exchange information, give directions during treatment and give advice to the patients. Students must have positive personal qualities such as respect, understanding and concern for others and also must exhibit professional doctor behavior.

    Required Documents:

    1. Valid, filled-in application form (to be filled online here);
    2. If already graduated: certificate of education (school leaving qualification such as high school diploma, document of graduation or any equivalent; university degree certificate or any equivalent; all in English / translated)
    3. Or the successful completion of the Basic Medicine Course at the University of Debrecen 
    4. Students in their final year of education: transcripts (end of year reports) of the last 2-3 academic years, plus predicted grades / expected graduation certificate.
    5. Certificate or proof of citizenship and/or permanent residence (e.g. passport)
    6. Short Resume/CV (personal details, educational background, work experience, language skills, additional skills)

    Application Notes :

    An entrance examination is compulsory for students applying to the following programs:

    • Basic Medicine Course
    • Medicine
    • Dentistry
    • Pharmacy

    The entrance exam consists of two parts:

    • a written test (comprised of multiple-choice questions, definitions, calculations, etc.) in Biology (compulsory for all) and Chemistry or Physics (the applicant's choice). Each written test takes 45 minutes.
    • an oral exam in Biology and Physics or Chemistry

    Possible results of the exam: 

    • admitted (to first year)
    • admitted to Basic Medicine Course (preparatory program)
    • rejected
    • in certain cases the exam committee can offer acceptance to a different study program.

    The overall exam performance is taken into consideration and the scores of different parts of the exam are for internal use only and not to be communicated to the applicants.

    • In the case of Applicants applying to any of the Non-Medical Programs, whose first language is not English, proof of English language proficiency; having an IELTS/TOEFL language certificate is not a compulsory requirement. The applicant can prove his/her English proficiency in other ways, such as by other language certificates, good GED, SAT, ACT results. If the language of instruction during your studies for your previous degree was English, you may upload an official certificate about this fact, issued by your school/university; in this case no language exam is required. We can also conduct an online interview during your application to assess your English communication skills.
    • In case of non-medical applicants to foundation or undergraduate programs, the study gap cannot be longer than 4 years.
    • In case of medical applicants to foundation, undergraduate and one-tier graduate programs, the study gap cannot be longer than 6 years.
    • In order to eliminate the administrative difficulties experienced by the University in relation to citizens of Bangladesh, Pakistan, Syria, Afghanistan, Burma and Yemen, the following study gap rule shall apply, for all study fields:
    • Foundation and undergraduate programs: max. 2 years
    • Graduate programs: max. 4 years
